Cancer patients and their family members deserve to understand their condition and the options available to them. The Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute is committed to providing educational opportunities for patients both on the UAMS campus and throughout Arkansas.
The Patient Support Center is open five days a week and provides educational materials as well as free Internet and a quiet room for patients to rest between appointments.
The Cancer Control and Outreach Department offers health screenings and educational events throughout the state, particularly in the Delta region.
Support groups and classes are offered to help patients deal with the emotions involved with a cancer diagnosis, as well as understand the day-to-day aspects of their treatment. Look Good ... Feel Better sessions provide an opportunity for cancer patients to receive a free consultation and makeover from a licensed cosmetologist.
