LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas Razorbacks are scheduled to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks on Nov. 7, but the fun starts the night before at the Big Red Tailgate.
The third annual event is set for 7-11 p.m. Nov. 6 at Teatro Scarpino, 329 N. West Ave., in Fayetteville. Tickets are $75 per person. Proceeds will help provide free or low-cost mammograms to women in 23 Arkansas counties without mammography facilities, including those in the northwest part of the state. To purchase tickets or for information, contact Jacquelyn White at jewhite@uams.edu or (501) 526-2277.
The mobile mammography unit is a new program of the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). It will be staffed by health care professionals from the Cancer Institute and will provide access to digital mammograms for women otherwise unable to receive an annual screening.
Tickets include an open bar and a tailgate-style buffet. Live music will be provided by the Smithsonians and the Kory Montgomery Band.
UAMS is the state’s only comprehensive academic health center, with five colleges, a graduate school, a new 540,000-square-foot hospital, six centers of excellence and a statewide network of regional centers. Stephens Spine & Neurosciences Institute, the Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy, the Harvey & Bernice Jones Eye Institute, the Psychiatric Research Institute and the Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging. It is the state’s largest public employer with more than 10,000 employees, including nearly 1,150 physicians who provide medical care to patients at UAMS, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, the VA Medical Center and UAMS’ Area Health Education Centers throughout the state.
