Joseph Moneymaker | Multiple Myeloma and Amyloidosis Survivor

“I was diagnosed at age 31 in September 2007 and have been in remission since April 2008. The experience was surreal to me. When I was told I had cancer, I never let it get to me, but when I was told I might have to retire from the Marine Corps is when I broke down. Because I will be in maintenance treatment for three years, I am waiting to see if I can stay in the Marines or have to take a medical retirement. I’ll face that bridge when I come to it.

“I would tell someone who has just been diagnosed to prepare for the road ahead, but to remember that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.”
