Richard Davies | Throat Cancer Survivor

Richard Davies, Throat cancer survivor
“Back in 2007 I was traveling to Gulf Shores and ate some Cracker Jacks while I was in the car. After that I started having an annoying feeling in my throat. I thought I had gotten a popcorn husk stuck in my throat, but it persisted.

My doctor was out of town, so I saw a different doctor who prescribed antibiotics. While I was taking the antibiotics my throat got significantly worse. I returned to see my regular doctor who immediately made me an appointment with a throat specialist.

I saw the specialist the week before Christmas. He was certain that I had cancer, and asked if I wanted to go to UAMS. I told him yes.

I had surgery on Jan. 2, followed by radiation. I am so blessed. It was a very aggressive cancer, but I never missed a day of work during my treatment. It’s so important to keep your mind focused on something positive while you’re experiencing something like cancer.”
