Veda Harris | Lung Cancer Survivor

Veda Harris
“While I was taking care of my sister who had lung cancer, I went to the doctor and asked for a lung X-ray. He asked why I wanted it, and I just told him that I thought it was something I needed to do.

That’s when they discovered that I had lung cancer. I came here to the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute to see Dr. Matthew Steliga.

Dr. Steliga took out my upper right lobe on April 29, 2010. He was wonderful. The whole place is wonderful. Everyone treats you with kindness and respect.

I’ve tried to thank Dr. Steliga for saving my life, but he’s so humble that he won’t even take credit. I know he’s a wonderful doctor.

I am cancer free today! I’m living life and doing anything I want to do. I’m so thankful for Dr. Steliga and for this place being here.”
