Carylon Jurcik | Tongue Cancer Survivor

“In late 2008, I could feel a bump on the back of my tongue. It wasn’t sore, but I didn’t know what it was. I went to my doctor in Clarksville who referred me to an oral surgeon. I took a round of antibiotics, but they didn’t help. The doctor ordered a biopsy, and the results came back as Stage 1 cancer.

Dr. Vural operated on me in January 2009. He’s a wonderful doctor and very thorough. You can’t keep from liking him. He’s not a man of a lot of words, but he always tells you the way it is. You want that in a doctor. In fact, the entire staff here has also been wonderful.

Every time I came back for checkups, there was fear that it had returned. It never leaves your mind. You’re always worried. But today was my five-year checkup, and I’m officially cancer free. I just want to say thanks to everyone who got me through this. Keep up the good work.”
