Jewell and Vivian McAfee

Jewell McAfee – “I was diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus five years ago. I couldn’t eat or drink and was on a feeding tube. For weeks, I couldn’t even swallow my own saliva.

My doctor referred me to Dr. Matthew Steliga at UAMS for surgery. I also had radiation and chemotherapy. Now, I’m doing great. You just have to trust in God and your doctor to pull you through.”

Vivian McAfee – “Doctors said I had everything from shingles to pneumonia to a sinus infection. Finally, I was told they found a spot on my lung. My doctor made an appointment for me to see a specialist in Texarkana, and I cancelled it. I knew I wanted to come to UAMS and see Dr. Steliga instead.

I had surgery in April 2015. Everyone in the hospital was great. When something like this happens, you can’t wait. You have to take care of it as soon as you can.”
