Research Interest Statement

My research focuses on imaging informatics and quantitative image analysis. I have spent most of my career designing health care and, more recently, research information management systems to include NCI’s Cancer Imaging Archive (TCIA). TCIA provides open access data, is built on open source software and supports open science, all areas of interest and focus for my research. We have used TCIA as a research platform to explore advanced issues in data acquisition, management, analysis and information fusion. I have spent the last 15 years focused on advancing the science of quantitative image analysis to extract new and more reliable information from medical images and electromagnetic signals, primarily in cancer but also in pursuit of understanding the functioning of the brain in both health and disease.  Currently, I am working on both lung cancer radiomics and trying to develop a new program in neuroimaging informatics drawing heavily on my experience as a member of the Human Connectome project team.

You might not know that …

My wife and I are passionate about ballroom dancing and travel to competitions across the country. I enjoy golf, even though it is not my strong suit, and fly fishing.  We both enjoy hiking and would love to get our kayaks back into the water, even though they are designed for the ocean and have been in both the Pacific and Atlantic.
