Gwen Kleiser | Breast Cancer Survivor

“It’s been a roller coaster since I was diagnosed on Nov. 20, 2017. I’ve been through all the emotions. The sadness. The ‘why me?’ The anger. But then I turned it over to God and said, ‘This journey is what you chose for me. Hold my hand and lead the way.’ He led me here. The people here have taken very good care of me. It’s a very loving place. I don’t know if I would have made it through without all the people who cared for me.

I have a big support system at home and at my school where I’m a counselor. I live in a very small town, and when someone goes through something like this they rally around you and carry you through.

My husband has been my rock. He keeps telling me this is just bump in the road. He hasn’t missed one chemo treatment with me. It was nice having him here to hold my hand.

I start radiation in four weeks, and I’m a little nervous about that, but I know I’m in good hands at UAMS.”
