Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute Auxiliary

The mission of the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute Auxiliary is to provide information, service, compassion and hope to those whose lives are touched by cancer.  The Cancer Institute Auxiliary is currently offering grants for innovative projects that are consistent with its mission statement and for which funding is not otherwise available.

The application deadline is March 6, 2020. Applications must be received by this date to be considered.

Guidelines and Instructions for Applicants

General Information

  • The Cancer Institute Auxiliary invites applications for innovative projects that are consistent with its mission statement and for which funding is not otherwise available. Proposals may be in the areas of cancer education, outreach, screening and treatment support. Cancer Institute Auxiliary Grants are one-year grants (May 2020 – May 2021).
  • Renewal applications (for continuation of the same project awarded the previous year) will be accepted; however, renewal applications will not receive priority and will be considered in competition with all other proposals.
  • The Cancer Institute Auxiliary Grants do not provide funds for salary or compensation, travel, or to purchase items used for routine clinical care.
  • All awardees are required to submit final reports for their projects. Final report forms will be sent to awardees in early November 2021and final reports will be due December 10, 2021.  Awardees who do not submit final reports will be ineligible for future funding.

Available Funds

The Cancer Institute Auxiliary is very pleased to announce that $100,000 will be available at this time for grant awards.  Grants are funded by the profits from the Cancer Institute Auxiliary Partners Card project.  The money raised by the Cancer Institute Auxiliary is used to fund projects that benefit cancer patients and are consistent with the auxiliary’s mission to provide information, service, compassion and hope to those whose lives are touched by cancer.

Applicants will receive email confirmation that their applications have been received.

 Review

Applications that are complete and in compliance with these guidelines will be evaluated by a review committee established by the Cancer Institute Auxiliary Board.  Judging standards will include these criteria:

  1. Relevance of the project to the auxiliary mission
  2. Significance/impact
  3. Clarity of proposal
  4. Timeliness of the project
  5. Availability of other funds to carry out the project

Announcement of Awards

The Cancer Institute Auxiliary Grant awards will be announced in mid April to mid May.

Application Instructions

In order to be considered for funding, applications must adhere to these instructions.

A. Format: The application must be typewritten, using 1” margins and a font no smaller than 11 point. The application should be no more than 5 pages, excluding the face page and letters of support.

B. Face Page:

  1. Investigator’s Name

  8. Departmental Approval: Name and Signature of Department Head
  9. Date submitted

C. Narrative: This section should include the following sections:

  1. Specific Aims:  Describe the anticipated outcomes of the project, including long-term goals.
  2. Rationale: What problem or need does the project address? Describe the background and significance. Cite current literature and/or provide preliminary data as appropriate.  Explain why this project cannot be funded by other sources.
  3. Method:  Describe the project’s design and methods, including timeline.
  4. Project personnel: Identify all persons who will participate in the project. Describe their roles and their qualifications. Letters of support may be attached when appropriate.

D. Budget: The budget section must include a line-item budget, in table form, and budget justification for all costs associated with your project, including those funded through other sources (see sample table below).

The Cancer Institute Auxiliary Grants do not provide funds for salary or compensation, travel, or to purchase items used for routine clinical care.  List all sources of current and pending support for the project.  Indicate the relationship of the proposal to other support.

  1. Renewal applications (requests for funds to continue a previously funded project): If a final report has not been submitted for the previously funded project, please provide the following information:
  1. List the objectives outlined in the original application and describe to what extent they were completed.  Summarize the outcomes and accomplishments of this project.  Describe plans for the future of this project, including plans to obtain other funding.
  2. Submit a detailed final accounting for this project indicating how grant funds were spent.
