Arts and Humanities

At the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, we believe that art in its many forms can bring a sense of calm and serenity in the face of life’s challenges. Whether through viewing, listening or creating art and music, the Cancer Institute offers programs to uplift the spirit and enrich the soul.

Sound of Hope | Music in the Atrium

Listen to Music

The 12-story open atrium at the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute was designed so that individuals throughout the building could enjoy music performed on the first floor. Individuals, musical groups or choirs are invited and encouraged to schedule or offer an impromptu performance. A Steinway grand piano is available or you are welcome to bring your own instruments. To schedule a performance or for more information, contact the Department of Volunteer Services at (501) 686-8286.

Art Collection

Prior to the opening of the Cancer Institute’s 12-story expansion tower in August 2010, a call was put out for original art by Arkansas artists. With a total of 215 submissions, a committee of artists from the University of Arkansas system selected 46 pieces representing the work of 28 artists to display in the institute. Some of the works include multiple pieces designed to be displayed together.

Oncology on Canvas

Lilly Oncology On Canvas: Expressions of a Cancer Journey is an art exhibition that honors the journeys people face when confronted with a cancer diagnosis. The Cancer Institute hosts the traveling exhibit each summer. Learn more at www.lillyoncologyoncanvas.com.

Community Arts

Our sister institution, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, offers many opportunities to participate in the arts.
