Hearing the words “you have breast cancer” brings with it many questions and emotions. Our staff understands your fears and has the expertise to help you battle this disease.

Our Breast Cancer Clinic offers comprehensive evaluation of breast pain, breast lumps and abnormal mammograms. A team of nurses and doctors will listen to your concerns, evaluate your findings and make competent recommendations — all in a short period of time.

New patients are generally seen within two to three days. A breast biopsy can be done and preliminary results given the same day. Biopsies can be done in our office with only a 1 cm incision required. You do not need to have surgery or be put to sleep.

If you do receive a diagnosis of breast cancer, evaluations and surgical procedures are carefully coordinated with medical and radiation oncologists throughout the state to provide total cancer care.

We also are available for second opinions to confirm the recommendations of your local physicians or give you alternatives from the breast team at the forefront of breast cancer research and treatment.

Some of the advanced procedures we offer include:

  • Minimally invasive breast lump and breast cancer removal
  • Sentinel lymph node biopsy
  • A less invasive form of radiation treatment called Mammosite
  • Innovative techniques for mastectomy and breast reconstruction

Should you require breast reconstruction, a surgeon with extensive reconstruction experience is available to see you in the same building as our clinic, reducing your number of office visits.

Additionally, some patients are eligible to participate in clinical research studies where appropriate.

UAMS Providers

Please call 501-296-1200 for new patients or 501-686-8522 for returning patients to request an appointment. Or, use MyChart to schedule an appointment online. Although UAMS does not require a physician referral, some insurance providers require a referral for specialty care. Please check with your insurance provider before requesting an appointment.

What should I bring to the appointment?

For your first appointment, please bring a photo ID and your insurance card along with a list of any medications you’re taking, including over-the-counter medications. You should also bring any medical records you can provide, including slides or test results from other clinics. For future appointments, please provide updated medical and insurance information.

How do I request a prescription refill or contact a nurse from the clinic?

To refill a prescription, please ask your pharmacy to send an eScribe request to our clinic. If you originally filled your prescription at the UAMS Outpatient Pharmacy, you can also refill your prescription online. To speak to a nurse, call the clinic at 501-686-5669.

Children at the Cancer Institute

Our patients and your children are at high risk for infection. If your child is showing signs of illness, he or she should remain in the lobby or The Gathering Place Café on the first floor with adult supervision.
