Volunteer Opportunities

Patient Access

Volunteers greet and welcome patients and visitors in the lobby and escort them to their appropriate clinic.

Patient Relations

Volunteers in this position serve patients and their families in the waiting areas by making and serving coffee, visiting with patients and acting as the patient satisfaction liaison with appropriate staff.

Most Vital Pal

The Most Vital Pal (MVP) is a volunteer who works one on one with patients.  MVPs receive specialized training to personally assist patients during their first day at any of the numerous clinics at the Cancer Institute, including the Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy. After completing training and shadowing a fellow MVP, volunteers in this program are paired with a new patient for the entirety of their first day on the UAMS campus. MVPs escort patients to their appointments, offer encouragement, act as a liaison with staff and ensure that patients have the individualized attention they need. Acting as an MVP is an intensive and rewarding experience.

Gift Shop

Different than any other hospital gift shop, the Cancer Institute Gift Shop is open Monday-Friday, and carries a unique assortment of gifts and specialty merchandise, including jewelry, handbags, baby gifts, hats, lotions, items for cancer patients and more. All proceeds go to the Auxiliary Grants Program. Volunteers in this area assist gift shop staff and customers with sales, wrapping, pricing items and cashier duties.

Episodic or special event volunteers work at cancer screenings, on fundraising committees and for Partners Card.
