NCT06313502 – High dose ascorbic acid (HDAA) in patients with plasma cell disorders

This is a UAMS investigator-initiated trial led by Dr. Carolina Schinke studying high dose ascorbic acid (vitamin C) in patients with plasma cell disorders such as monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS), smoldering myeloma, and multiple myeloma. The rationale builds on prior research showing that pharmacologic doses of ascorbic acid generate reactive oxygen species that selectively kill malignant plasma cells while sparing normal cells, an effect seen in myeloma and smoldering myeloma samples in earlier laboratory studies. The trial opened in July 2024 and is currently recruiting at UAMS, with an estimated primary completion in April 2027.
