About Christie Matthews

As an on-air personality with Jonesboro Media Group, Christie has spent much of her career using her voice to inform, entertain, and connect with her community. Now, she has the opportunity to use that voice for a cause — and a place — that quite literally gave her life.

Christie Matthews knows firsthand what it means to “Be A Part of the Cure.” A Multiple Myeloma thriver, Christie was blindsided by her cancer diagnosis in 2021 and suddenly found herself facing a disease she knew very little about. Thankfully, a friend with a connection to the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute’s  Myeloma Center helped make the introductions that quickly put Christie in the hands of the team at UAMS. She soon learned that some of the very best treatment for her cancer was available right here at home in Arkansas.

Christie underwent chemotherapy and a life-saving stem cell transplant at UAMS and continues to be cared for by Dr. Frits van Rhee and the Myeloma Center team. That makes serving as emcee of the 2027 Be A Part of the Cure Walk especially meaningful. This year’s RED theme shines a light on blood cancers while honoring Dr. van Rhee — a physician who has played such an important role in Christie’s own cancer journey. Today, she is grateful for the treatment that gave her more time, for the people who helped guide her when she didn’t know where to turn, and for the opportunity to stand alongside other patients, survivors, families and caregivers in the fight against cancer.
